Live In Parents’ Weekend

Thursday, July 4, 2019

The Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company hosted a "Live-In Parents Weekend" for the Department's live-in volunteer firefighters and their immediate families this past weekend, June 28-30, 2019.

The Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company currently has 13 volunteer live-in firefighters staffing 3 of our 5 stations.  Our live-ins come from Ocean City, PG and Montgomery Counties in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, and Illinois.  They dedicate over 48 hours each week staffing fire apparatus in addition to their regular volunteer membership requirements.  This amount of service means time away from home and their loved ones.  The weekend was an opportunity for the volunteers to spend some much needed quality time with their families and a way for us (the Department) to thank them for the sacrifices they make throughout the year.  We recognize being a live-in firefighter is a special sacrifice not all volunteers are able to make and we are thankful for their commitment not only to the Department but to the Community we serve.

In hopes to make "Live-In Parents Weekend" an enjoyable and relaxing experience for our volunteer live-in members and their families, we asked many local businesses to donate to our special event.  We would like to send a special thank you to the local companies who donated to our weekend: Francis Scott Key Family Resort for discounted rooms, Ocean City Fire Marshal Office for a Bonfire Permit, Talbot Street Watersports for donating 50 tickets for the Assateague Adventure, OC Rocket, and Happy Hooker Fishing Trip, The Assateague Crab House for our Crab Feast Dinner, Jolly Rogers Amusement Park for donating 50 free passes to their water park, Trimper's Rides for donating 50 wristbands, Seacrets Distillery for donating gift cards to the families, and Old Pro Golf for donating 50 free games at use at any of their 6 locations.  We could not have done it without our community's generosity.  From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!
