Rookie School Training

Monday, July 2, 2018

The Probationary Firefighters met on Wednesday to complete Session 3 of their Probationary Firefighter School.  The "Rookie School", as it is often called, is a seven session course which provides our probationary firefighters with the most basic information regarding the Ocean City Fire Department, including the operating procedures and policies.

Probationary Firefighters with no prior fire training must attend all 7 sessions of the course.  Those with previous fire training may test out of the majority of the sessions, but are still required to attend Sessions 1, 2, and 3.

Session 3 covers Firefighter Safety, Personal Protective Equipment, and SCBA.  The "Probies" are issued gear at this time and practice the proper way to don and doff their gear and SCBA.  Once this session is complete, the Probationary Firefighters are permitted to ride apparatus as an Observer Only.
